  • Cavemen are said to have covered their structures with earth and plants and whilst they were not particularly waterproof, they provided very effective insulation against the elements.

 

  • In around 735 AD, thatched roofs, which is a roof built with materials such as straw, were created. Around 300 years later, wood shingles were introduced.

 

  • It has been discovered that the first known use of clay tiles occurred around 5,000 years ago in China and in 100 BC, the Romans brought variations of it to England.

 

  • Due to the easy spread of fire, King John of England issued a law in the 12th century which stated that all London inhabitants had to replace thatch roofing with clay tiles.

A few years ago, another company were asked to place some canopies over the platforms- however it has recently been decided that these canopies are too close to the train line for comfort. Although trains are still able to pass through, the situation is not ideal. The team here at Valent Roofing are honoured to fix this problem and we will be removing some of the materials to ensure that the canopies fit to an ideal height.

 

  1. There’s nothing better than revamping a look to suit a modern design. Our next project is based in Nelson, near Burnley, and we have been hired by a company called Biz Space in order to replace the slate roof of an old mill. Biz Space has bought the mill in order to turn it into offices and want us to provide them with a modern metal sheet roof. It’s safe to say we can’t wait to get started!
